Musical and theatre lovers can book now to go and see Stephen Ward the Musical, the new show from Andrew Lloyd Webber opening in London in less than two months time.
Showing at the Aldwych Theatre in London’s vibrant West End theatre district, Stephen Ward the Musical is based on the true story of the 1963 Profumo Affair, and deals largely with the exploits of Dr Stephen Ward an osteopath and “party arranger for the aristocracy”.
The show charts the rise and fall of Ward, who became involved with young, beautiful, renowned socialite Christine Keeler after a chance meeting in a West End night club. Keeler was also involved in an adulterous relationship with John Profumo, who at the time was Secretary of State for War in Harold Macmillan’s Conservative government. Profumo lied about his relationship with Keeler in the House of Commons, and when the scandal broke, was forced to resign, the whole situation doing no little damage to the reputation of Macmillan’s government.
The principle cast for the show includes:
Alexander Hanson as the eponymous Stephen Ward
Charlotte Spencer as Christine Keeler
Daniel Flynn as John Profumo
Charlotte Blackledge as Mandy Rice-Davies, close friend of Keeler
With musical theatre legend Andrew Lloyd Webber having penned the music for the show, which was written by Christopher Hampton and Don Black, the show, which opens on Tuesday 3 December 2013 promises to be a great success, with the official opening night taking place on Thursday 19 December 2013.
Though Stephen Ward tickets are not currently available for the opening night, they are available for the preview shows in the weeks building up to that and also the nights following the opener. There will also be weekly Wednesday matinees, starting from Wednesday 8 January 2014 onwards. Tickets are available both on the Aldwych Theatre website at http://www.aldwychtheatre.com/shows/stephen-ward-the-musical-tickets/ and with Ticketmaster at http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/Stephen-Ward-tickets/artist/1883619.
Over the often busy Christmas period, only Christmas Day and New Year’s Day see no show taking place, with at least one showing every other day. A range of different priced tickets are available for the show, which lasts for around two hours and 20 minutes, including the interval.
